Swiss Super League side Grasshoppers have officially confirmed the signing of El Bachir Ngom from Latvian champions Riga FC. The 25-year-old defender has signed a contract running until 2029.
Earlier today we reported that Riga FC agreed to sell one of their key players to the Zurich-based club for a transfer fee reported to be close to €1 million. A few hours after those reports emerged, both clubs officially announced the transfer.
Ngom joined Riga FC in the summer of 2022 after a half-season spell with FK Auda and went on to spend three and a half seasons with the capital club. During that period, he won the Virslīga title and the Latvian Cup. In total, Ngom featured 119 times for Riga FC, scoring five goals.
In the 2025 season, the physically strong and quick defender played 41 matches across all competitions, contributing two goals and seven assists. His performances earned him the individual honor of being voted Virslīga Player of the Season.
Grasshoppers sporting director Alain Sutter commented on the signing:
“Mouhamed brings experience from a highly competitive environment and has performed consistently at both national and international level over several years. He will help us further stabilize our defense.”
Ngom also reacted to the move:
“I am very happy about the next step in my career. GC Zürich showed me a clear perspective, and I want to contribute to achieving the club’s goals.”
Ngom will wear the number 20 shirt at Grasshoppers, who currently sit 11th in the Swiss Super League. The club has previously featured Latvia national team captain Kristers Tobers among its players.
