Just days before their season-defining clash with FC Flora, FCI Levadia slipped up in Tartu, twice squandering the lead and dropping two vital points in a 2-2 draw against Tammeka. The result costs the defending champions first place in the Premium Liiga table, with Flora now leading thanks to a better head-to-head record.
The evening had started perfectly for Levadia. Only three minutes in, Gambian forward Bubacarr Tambedou arrowed a low drive inside the post to put the visitors ahead and raise fears of another rout after their 4-0 win earlier in the season.
But the hosts refused to fold. Against the run of play in the 22nd minute, a Marius Vister pass caused chaos in the box, bouncing between defenders before Tristan Koskor reacted quickest to stab in the equaliser and lift the home crowd.
Levadia pushed hard to restore their advantage before the break, with Tambedou a constant threat. Still, his finishing lacked sharpness: two tame efforts fell to Richard Aland, another was blocked by Mairo Miil, and one strike rattled the post. Right after half-time, the striker did find the net again – but VAR chalked it off for dangerous play after a high boot on Tanel Lang.
The match turned cagey as both sides battled for control, until Brazilian substitute Gabriel Wendell appeared to settle the contest in the 79th minute. Cutting in from the right, he curled a stunning shot into the far corner to give Levadia a 2-1 cushion.
Yet joy quickly turned to despair. Just three minutes later, Giacomo Uggeri’s shot deflected off Brent Lepistu and left goalkeeper Karl Andre Vallner helpless, bringing Tammeka level once more. Despite eight minutes of added time, Levadia failed to carve out another clear chance.
The draw leaves Flora and Levadia neck-and-neck on points, but Flora’s superior record between the two rivals gives them the edge at the top – a fact that sets the stage perfectly for Wednesday’s showdown in Tallinn.
