Lithuanian Cup winners FK Panevėžys continue strengthening their squad ahead of the new season, announcing the signing of FK Banga Gargždai captain Matas Ramanauskas.

The 25-year-old midfielder, a product of the National Football Academy, previously spent five seasons with FK Riteriai before moving to Banga, where he played the last two years. Born in Kėdainiai, Ramanauskas quickly became one of Banga’s key figures, helping the club lift a historic Lithuanian Cup in his debut season.

Following the retirement of long-time captain Robertas Veževičius, Ramanauskas was chosen as Banga’s new skipper for the 2025 campaign.

This season, the midfielder made 39 appearances across all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists. In total, he featured 77 times for Banga over two seasons, contributing four goals.

Now, Ramanauskas joins another recent Lithuanian Cup champion: FK Panevėžys. Speaking to the club’s official website, he shared his motivation for the move:

“Joining Panevėžys was encouraged by the approaching season, the club’s vision, and its strong organization. I feel that I gave everything I could at my previous club, so now I’m looking for new challenges and want to test myself in a different environment. I’m extremely grateful to coach David Afonso for restoring my confidence – it was an important part of my journey and motivation to keep moving forward.

My goal is to contribute as much as possible to the team’s play and help achieve all of our seasonal targets. On a personal level, I want to continue growing as a player and prove my value on the pitch. I’ve already started my individual training to return in rhythm and arrive fully prepared from day one.”

Ramanauskas becomes FK Panevėžys’ third new signing of the offseason, following the arrivals of Ernestas Burdzilauskas and Oleksandr Kurtsev.
