With the Game Week (GW) 11 completed in all three Baltic states, the updated Power Rankings are in!
There is, finally, some movement among the Top 10! Both FK Liepāja and Paide lost a place each after drawing in their GW11 games, falling down to 10th and 8th respectively. Who pushed them out? FK Panevėžys gained a place and moved into number 9 on the back of their impressive win over Hegelmann FC and Kauno Žalgiris rose up to 7th in the Baltics (and to the top in Lithuania) with a 1-0 win over Džiugas. The Kaunas club are now only 11 coefficient points behind FK Auda, who are just above them in 6th place for the 4th week running.
The sensation of last Power Rankings calculation – Nõmme Kalju – continue to climb the ladder. A win over defending Champions FCI Levadia in GW11 saw them solidify their foothold in the Top 15, exchanging places with FK Metta to rise up to 14th with an impressive 23 coefficient point lead over the Latvian club. While they have an equally impressive 38 coefficient point gap to BFC Daugavpils ahead of them, it seems that Kalju are going to stay in the top half of the Baltic elite, at least for the time being. For a club that started the season ranked 21st, being up in the 14th after only 11 matches is a very impressive achievement indeed!
A club with a similarly impressive achievement is DFK Dainava, who also moved 7 places from their starting position, albeit in a different direction. Now officially bottom of the Baltic top tier, the only winless club from among the three neighbouring leagues, Dainava gave up another 10 coefficient points and have now hit rock bottom with Harju Laagri above them but demonstrating much better form (well, who isn’t?).
In other news, Žalgiris are back into the 1000+ club and the two equally ranked clubs are Super Nova and FS Jelgava (each at 610 coefficient points).
Next Power Rankings calculation is sure to bring movement around the Top 15 mark, with three clubs primed to push Metta out of the top half of the table. Will Dainava, now having disposed themselves of a head coach, lift themselves up against a much higher ranked Sūduva? And with Auda having drawn in GW12, will Kauno Žalgiris rob them of the 6th place that the green-blacks have been warming for a month now?
