In Scotland, Daniels Balodis and St Johnstone F.C. have reached the Scottish Cup semi-final for the first time since the 2020/21 season after defeating Livingston 1-0 away from home.
St Johnstone’s journey to the quarterfinals began with a victory over Motherwell in the fourth round, followed by a win against Hamilton Academical in the last round. They were aiming for their first semi-final appearance since their surprising Cup victory in the 2020/21 season.
Latvian defender Daniels Balodis was once again included in the starting lineup. The second division side Livingston came into the match in great form, playing well and creating numerous chances, but the first half ended in a deadlock.
In the second half, Simo Valakari’s team increased their attacking efforts, and in the 73rd minute, they took the lead when Graham Carey scored with a stunning left-foot shot from long range, finding the top corner to make it 1-0 for St Johnstone!
Balodis and St Johnstone held on for the win, securing their place in the Scottish Cup semi-final. He will join fellow Latvian Kristers Tobers, who made it to the semi-final with his team, Aberdeen FC.
After the St Johnstone match, the draw for the semi-final took place. The semi-finals will be held at Hampden Park on the 19th and 20th of April. There will be no Latvian duel in the semi-finals, as Daniels Balodis and St Johnstone have been drawn against Celtic FC, while Aberdeen featuring Tobers will face Edinburgh Hearts.
