A memorable night for Latvian footballers in Slovakia saw Tatran Prešov, featuring Gļebs Patika and Daniels Balodis, claim a remarkable 1-0 away victory over reigning champions Slovan Bratislava. Latvian national team defender Daniels Balodis provided the assist for the match-winning goal.
For the first time this season, both Latvians were named in Prešov’s starting lineup. It was Patika’s first-ever league start, while Balodis – a regular presence in central defence – once again anchored the back line.
The game’s turning point came late in the first half, when Slovan were reduced to ten men after a defender denied a clear goal-scoring opportunity.
With a man advantage throughout the second half, Prešov controlled possession but struggled to break down Slovan’s disciplined defence. Their persistence finally paid off, however, as the underdogs found the breakthrough late in the match.
Balodis carried the ball forward unchallenged before setting up Roman Begala, who received the pass on the edge of the box, turned sharply, and fired home to make it 1-0.
The goal proved decisive, earning Prešov their fourth consecutive unbeaten match in league play. Balodis completed the full 90 minutes with a strong defensive display and a crucial assist, while Patika played the first half in his starting debut.
After 12 matches, Tatran Prešov sit ninth in the 12-team Fortuna Liga with 12 points. They will next face league leaders MŠK Žilina at home on Saturday.
