St. Pauli claimed a 2-1 home victory over Werder Bremen in a Bundesliga meeting of clubs featuring Estonia internationals Karol Mets and Karl Jakob Hein.

This time Mets started and completed the match in St. Pauli’s back line, while goalkeeper Hein remained on the bench for Werder. In the reverse fixture in early October, Werder won 1-0 at home with Hein in goal and Mets unused as he continued his return from injury.

The hosts went ahead on 55 minutes when centre-back Hauke Wahl met Danel Sinani’s delivery with a header that Werder keeper Mio Backhaus failed to handle, allowing the ball to slip through his hands and into the net.

Werder levelled seven minutes later through substitute Jovan Milošević after St. Pauli did not clear their lines inside the area. St. Pauli restored their lead in the 70th minute as a flowing move ended with Joel Chima Fujita shooting from inside the box.

Werder pressed for an equaliser late on but St. Pauli held firm. The result was St. Pauli’s second win in three matches, while Werder’s run without a victory since early November continued, with nine defeats and four draws in their last 13 games.

The sides swapped places near the bottom, with St. Pauli moving to 16th on 20 points and Werder dropping to 17th on 19. Several teams sat just a few points ahead, while bottom club Heidenheim remained on 13 points ahead of their evening match against Stuttgart.
