Antal strikes twice from the penalty spot in a Žalgiris Vilnius win

FK Žalgiris Vilnius secured a 2-0 victory over FA Šiauliai in the Matchday 3 of Lithuania’s Toplyga, with Romanian forward Liviu Antal scoring both goals from the penalty spot.

The visitors took the lead early in the 7th minute after Giedrius Matulevičius was fouled inside the penalty area. Antal stepped up and calmly converted the spot kick to give Žalgiris the advantage.

Šiauliai looked to respond soon after, but Patrikas Pranckus sent his effort over the crossbar, while Rui Batalha also failed to convert from a promising position.

Žalgiris doubled their lead in the 37th minute when referee Robertas Šmitas awarded another penalty. Antal again stepped forward and made no mistake, securing his second goal of the match.

In the second half, the team coached by Rolandas Džiaukštas did not create many dangerous chances but remained solid defensively, successfully protecting their clean sheet and seeing out the victory.

With the win, Žalgiris move up to second place with six points, while Šiauliai remain at the bottom of the table, still searching for their first victory of the season.
