Latvian club SK Super Nova has announced that another of their academy players has joined the youth system of Italian Serie B side Palermo FC – this time, it’s 16-year-old central defender Kārlis Viļums.

Just a few months ago, Super Nova confirmed that young national team goalkeeper Nils Balagušs had also joined Palermo. The 17-year-old has already been involved with the Serie B side’s first team, sitting on the bench twice this season due to injuries among the senior goalkeepers, while mainly featuring for Palermo’s Primavera (U19) team, where he has made three appearances.

Now, Viļums, born in 2009, follows in his footsteps. The 193 cm tall defender played a key role for Super Nova’s U17 side this season, helping them win the Latvian U17 championship, making 16 appearances and scoring two goals.
