Latvian forward Aivars Emsis will continue his career abroad after signing with Maltese top-flight club Gżira United until the end of the current season.
The 27-year-old striker spent the previous three seasons in Lithuania’s top division, representing Sūduva and, most recently, Banga Gargždai. During the last season with Banga, Emsis made 34 appearances across all competitions, scoring five goals.
His new club Gżira United have made a strong start to the second half of the Maltese season and currently share first place in the Maltese Premier League standings. Their next match is scheduled for Sunday, when they host Floriana, who are level on points with Gżira at the top of the table.
Emsis made his Virslīga debut with FK Jelgava and has also represented Spartaks Jūrmala. In addition to his time in Latvia and Lithuania, the forward has previously played abroad in Germany, Greece, and Italy.
