On Monday evening, the Latvian Women’s National Team triumphed in Raudondvaris Stadium, just outside Kaunas, defeating hosts Lithuania 3-0 to capture the Baltic Cup. Karlīna Miksone was the star of the match with a brace, while 16-year-old Gabriela Annija Andersone added her first-ever international goal. In the third-place match, Estonia secured the bronze medals with a solid 2-0 win over the Faroe Islands.

Both Latvia and Lithuania reached the final after winning their semifinals – Latvia overcame Estonia 1-0 thanks to a first-half penalty from Miksone, while Lithuania edged the Faroe Islands by the same scoreline, with Rimantė Jonušaitė netting the decisive goal.

The opening half of the final was a tight affair, with both teams creating chances but failing to capitalize, resulting in a goalless draw at the break. However, after halftime, the Latvian side completely took control.

In the 59th minute, after an excellent set-piece delivery from Olga Ševčova, Miksone found space in front of goal and slotted home to give Latvia the lead. Ten minutes later, Latvia struck again – Andersone, showing maturity beyond her years, dispossessed an opponent deep in Lithuanian territory, launched a quick counterattack, and exchanged passes with Ševčova before calmly finishing for 2-0. It was her first-ever goal for the national team in just her seventh appearance.

As the match neared its conclusion, Latvia’s standout player Miksone sealed the victory with her second goal, heading in from a corner to make it 3-0. The result handed Latvia its first Baltic Cup triumph in six years and fifth overall in team history.
