Lithuanian goalkeeper Marius Adamonis conceded three goals in a league match for the first time this season as FC Südtirol fell to a 0-3 away defeat against Palermo FC in Serie B.
The 28-year-old has been a key figure in Südtirol’s strong start to the year, helping the team go seven matches unbeaten and climb from the relegation zone into mid-table prior to this round.
However, the task in Palermo was significant. The Sicilian side had won eight consecutive home matches and had dropped points only three times in 13 home fixtures this season – all at the start of the campaign.
Palermo laid the foundation for victory in the first half. Finnish forward Joel Pohjanpalo converted a penalty to open the scoring, and later Jeremy Le Douaron doubled the lead before halftime. The hosts added a third goal in the second half, marking the first time in the current Serie B season that Adamonis has conceded three in a league match.
Despite the scoreline, Adamonis made five saves from eight shots on target during the game.
Following the defeat, Südtirol remain ninth in the Serie B standings with 33 points. Their next league fixture is scheduled for Saturday, when they host leaders Venezia FC.
Elsewhere in Serie B, another Lithuanian, goalkeeper Ovidijus Šiaulys, saw his club Virtus Entella lose 1-3 to US Catanzaro 1929. Šiaulys remained on the bench, as he has throughout the season. Entella sit 17th in the 20-team league with 25 points from 26 matches.
