Following a 6-1 loss to Nõmme Kalju, Tallinna Kalev’s young goalkeeper Miron Vetkal acknowledged his team’s recent poor defensive record and called for better concentration and improvement.
Miron Vetkal made his first start in the Tallinna Kalev goal this season, replacing Sander Lepp, who came under a ruthless barrage from defending Champions Levadia in the previous match, conceding 9 of 19 shots on his goal. Vetkal, who is only 17, made 3 saves during the match, including saving a penalty, but let in 6 as Kalev capitulated in the second half, conceding 5 goals. Speaking to the press after the match, the Kalev youngster reflected:
I think the issue with our defending was lack of concentration and I did not work as hard as I could have and did not clear the balls as well as I should have. I have to be more focused on the game and I can’t blame anyone else for this – I need to continue working hard and improving at defending. For us, defending comes first but it seems that, at the moment, nothing is working and that has to change.
Tallinna Kalev have not had a successful start to the season and currently find themselves last in the Premium liiga with only 4 points from 9 games. They have conceded 32 goals thus far this season, 15 of which in just the previous two games.
