Following their defeat to Hegelmann, FK Žalgiris manager Vladimir Cheburin expressed disappointment with the result and highlighted a high rate of errors by his team.
Defending A Lyga Champions FK Žalgiris lost 2-1 away to Hegelmann FC during match day 8 – a result that saw Hegelmann rise to the top of the table with a three point lead over Džiugas and Kauno Žalgiris while FK Žalgiris sank to the 6th position.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, FK Žalgiris head coach Vladimir Cheburin commented:
What can I say? We allowed the opponents too much. We allowed them dangerous attacks and counter-attacks while we lacked concentration in the final third and in our finishing. We did not convert a penalty again and we keep on making many positional mistakes throughout, which gives our opponents opportunities. But other than that, all we can do is to carry on. I see that the players are moving and running, and that we are piling pressure on the opponents for the entire duration of the game but then we keep on getting caught on the counter-attacks as we leave space at the back while trying to score. Even when it was still 1-1 and we kept on moving forward all it took was a set piece and.. same in the second half – we wanted to score and were creating more chances than our opponents and ended up getting hit with quick transitions.
Hegelmann FC are proving to be a very difficult opponent for FK Žalgiris in recent years, with Vilnius side last securing a win back in August 2023. Since then, they lost 4 and drew 2, conceding an average of 1.8 goals per match when facing the Kaunas club.
