A surprising result occurred in the second match of the day in the TOPsport A Lyga as FC Džiugas Telšiai defeated FK Kauno Žalgiris 2-1 in Marijampole. Both goals for Džiugas were scored by their new signing Oleksandr Kurtsev, who was making his debut.

Džiugas, who had played well in their season opener but lost to defending champions FK Žalgiris 1-2, today faced FK Kauno Žalgiris, one of the favorites to win the league title according to bookmakers. FK Kauno Žalgiris came off a convincing 3-1 victory against DFK Dainava Alytus the previous week, and it seemed they were poised to continue their good form. In the second minute of the match, a defensive mistake by Dainava Alytus defenders led to an early goal by Amine Benchaib, marking his second consecutive game on the scoresheet.

In the middle of the second half, Ukrainian winger Oleksandr Kurtsev made his debut for Džiugas. His performance was nothing short of remarkable. In the 76th minute, from an improbable angle, he managed to beat the goalkeeper and equalize the score. Then, in the 87th minute, substitute Aram Baghdasaryan stole the ball from a Žalgiris defender, initiating a counter-attack that was executed flawlessly. Silkaitis set up Kurtsev, who was on his left. With a quick look, the former FK Metta player found space to shoot, scoring the game-winning goal.

This victory marked Džiugas’s first win of the season, while FK Kauno Žalgiris suffered their first defeat.
