Ogre United was founded only four years ago, in 2022. In their debut season, they secured promotion to the third-tier league, followed by another promotion to the second-tier league in their second season. Last year, they made their debut in the Nākotnes Liga, finishing in 11th place out of 14 teams. Now, the club has set its sights on fighting for a spot in the Virslīga.

With an increased budget, Ogre United has been actively strengthening its squad this winter. Earlier, the club announced the signings of former national team player Krišs Kārkliņš and one of last season’s top scorers, Edward Unuigbeje. Now, six more promising players have joined the team.

Among them is 19-year-old forward Haralds Silagailis, who played a key role in SK Super Nova’s promotion to Virslīga last season, scoring 11 goals in Latvia’s second-tier league. He is not the only former Super Nova player to bolster Ogre United; the club has also signed 25-year-old Ukrainian defender Dmytro Mamich, who played the most minutes for his team last season, featuring in all 26 matches. Another addition from SK Super Nova is 18-year-old Timurs Abramenko, who made 11 appearances under coach Ervīns Pērkons last year.

A high-profile signing, on paper, is Ukrainian winger Vadym Mashchenko. The 24-year-old joined FS Jelgava in 2023, playing a full Virslīga season and scoring three goals in Latvia’s top division before spending half a year in Poland and Slovakia’s second-tier leagues. Now, he returns to Latvia to strengthen Ogre United’s attack.

Another exciting acquisition is former U19 national team forward Kristofers Jamonts, who arrives from Slovakia’s second division. Between 2021 and 2024, he was part of the SpVgg Unterhaching system in Germany. Additionally, Japanese midfielder Kaito Kumakura, who played for Ogre United in 2023 before moving to Mongolia’s top league, has now returned to the club.

Currently, infrastructure development efforts are underway to improve Ogre United’s artificial turf pitch. Because of this, the team will train and start the season at Salaspils Stadium. However, the club aims to play its first full season at the natural grass stadium in Ogre. Last year, an average of 214 spectators attended Ogre United’s matches, making it the fifth-highest attendance in Latvia’s second-tier league.

The 2025 Nākotnes Liga campaign will kick off with an ambitious clash between Leevon PPK and Ogre United on March 28 at LNK Sporta Parks.
