In Spanish La Liga, Karl Hein’s Real Valladolid ended their six-game losing streak on Friday evening with a 1-1 draw against Las Palmas.
The 22-year-old Estonian goalkeeper made his 26th La Liga appearance of the season. Coming into this match, Real Valladolid was at the bottom of the league table and had just suffered a 1-7 defeat in Bilbao. They were hosting another struggling team, Las Palmas.
Las Palmas opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal from Sandro Ramirez, making it seem like Real Valladolid was heading for a seventh consecutive defeat. However, everything changed seven minutes later when Las Palmas defender Scott McKenna received a straight red card.
In the second half, Real Valladolid was determined to end their losing streak. Their offensive pressure paid off in the 63rd minute when substitute Juanmi Latasa scored his first goal for the club, equalizing the match.
Hein’s team pushed for a game-winning goal and came close on several occasions. However, as the final whistle blew, the fans, players, and staff of Real Valladolid felt they had missed a significant opportunity to catch up to other teams in the table.
After this match, Real Valladolid remains six points behind 19th place Alavés and eight points behind Leganés, the last team safe from relegation. Their next game is scheduled for next Saturday when they will travel to face Valencia, who are currently in 18th place in the league table.
