Just before the start of the 2025 football season, FK Kauno Žalgiris has secured another addition to its squad by signing French midfielder and ex Žalgiris Vilnius winger Fabien Ourega.
The 32-year-old attacking winger is no stranger to Lithuanian football. In 2022, he played for Žalgiris Vilnius, helping the team secure the Lithuanian championship title, lift the LFF Cup, and qualify for the UEFA Conference League group stage.
During his season in the capital, F.Ourega made a significant impact, scoring 8 goals and providing 6 assists.
Following his spell in Vilnius, he spent nearly two years with Kazakhstani powerhouse Astana, where he won two trophies. During his 50 appearances for the club, he contributed with 1 goal and 8 assists.
Earlier in his career, the new FK Kauno Žalgiris signing played in his homeland, featuring for several French clubs, including Orleans, Sochaux, Le Havre, JA Drancy, and Paris FC. His first experience abroad came when he joined Belgian club Virton.
“I feel happy to return to a country and a league that I know well. I decided to join the club because it has everything needed to be the best in the country, and I also know the coach very well,” Ourega told.
“I am a fighter, and I always want to win. My goal is to become a champion and reach the group stage of European competitions. All it takes is belief,” added the Frenchman, who has chosen to wear the number 70 jersey for FK Kauno Žalgiris.
