Following their loss in the Virsliga promotion play-offs against FK Grobiņa last season, JDFS Alberts have not shown any signs of letting go and have set a target of gaining promotion to the Virsliga in the 2025 season.

Despite the loss in the promotion play-offs, the 2024 season was one to remember for JDFS Alberts, as the club achieved its highest league finish (3rd place) in history. In an interview with Baltycki Futbol, the club’s newly appointed vice-president Jānis Pakalns revealed that “the 2024 season was a challenging one, but one which also let them grow as a club, presenting themselves as one of the strongest clubs in the Nākotnes Līga, earning a spot on the podium, which made them believe that they are on the right path.”

The goal for 2025 is simple – to fight for a spot in the Virsliga, and everyone at the club is determined to achieve it. “Every training session, every match, and every decision is made with this clear vision in mind,” added J. Pakalns.

The vice-president also revealed that JDFS Alberts are looking to strengthen their squad with foreigners. “I think that there’ll be some additions from “outside”. Right now we are looking to add a quality foreign player to the squad,” J. Pakalns commented. This will be something new for them as the club has always been based on Latvian players from the club’s academy.

Developing academy players will still be the main target for the club as in the long term JDFS Alberts aim to maintain the club’s academy status as one of the best in the country and prepare its players for the Latvian youth national teams.

Right now the team is working hard ahead of the new season and the search for new players to add to the team continues.
