With just over a week left until the start of the TOPsport A Lyga season, FK Kauno Žalgiris club has welcomed another new addition to its squad.
The team’s defensive line has been reinforced by 29-year-old Serbian center-back Dejan Kerkez.
Standing at 190 cm tall, the Serbian defender most recently played in the top tier of Serbian football, wearing the jersey of Subotica’s Spartak. Before that, the new FK Kauno Žalgiris signing also played for Napredak from Krusevac in the same league.
Product of the Čelarevo ČSK academy, Kerkez has already experienced life as a footballer abroad, having spent three years in Portugal.
After signing with the top-tier club Maritimo, he played over 20 matches before being loaned to the second-division side Mafra for a period of time.
“Dejan is a highly experienced defender who spent the last three years playing in the Serbian top division, where he was also a team captain. He is good with the ball at his feet and strong in aerial duels. A versatile player, he can play both as a left and right center-back,” said head coach Eivinas Černiauskas about the new signing.
Kerkez, who has chosen to wear the number 5 jersey, has already arrived in Kaunas, successfully passed his medical examination, and joined the team’s training sessions on Thursday.
