19-year-old striker Emīls Evelons and FK Liepāja have officially parted ways, with the young forward never making his debut in the Latvian Virslīga.

Evelons, born in 2005, is a product of the JDFS Alberts academy. His breakthrough season in senior football came in 2023 when he scored 11 goals in 14 matches in the Latvian second division, Nākotnes Līga. This success earned him a move to Slovenia, where he joined NK Domžale U19. There, he continued to impress, netting 12 goals in 22 matches in the Slovenian youth league. During his time at Domžale, Evelons also trained with the first team and was named on the bench twice for top-flight Slovenian league matches.

Reflecting on his time in Slovenia before a match between Riga FC and FK Liepāja on September 29, Evelons noted that he could have had a better chance of making the first team “if the club didn’t change coaches so often.” Despite that, he valued his experience, saying, “I trained with the first team, I grew as a player, and I gained experience in a different country.”

On August 29, 2024, in a somewhat surprising move, Evelons joined FK Liepāja, just as the transfer window was closing. He revealed that negotiations began through his agent with the club’s then-new coaching staff, who “spoke about a new project and how they saw the club in the coming months and next season.” However, that coaching staff is no longer with the team, and Evelons never got his chance to play in the Virslīga, only making the matchday squad four times.

His transfer even drew criticism from former Latvian national team player and football pundit Jurijs Žigajevs, who commented on the X platform, saying, “Evelons’ agent should be ashamed.”

Now, as a former Latvian U19 international, Evelons has officially left FK Liepāja and has already begun training with FK Metta, where he hopes to revive his career.
