Improvement works are underway at the Sloka Stadium in Jūrmala as the city is preparing to host EURO U-17 in 2027.
The Jūrmala city council began improvement works at the Sloka Stadium to ensure appropriate level of facilities for the EURO U-17, which the city will be hosting in 2027 alongside the capital, Rīga, and Jelgava. In total, 2.57 million EUR are being invested over two phases.
First phase will see expansion and resurfacing of the artificial pitch, as well installation of new lighting to a 350 lux standard. Second phase will see installation of lighting for the natural grass pitch. These fixtures will be up to 850 lux standard, which will meet requirements of the Latvian Football Federation for stadium lighting necessary for organizing top-tier and international matches. 850 lux is also equivalent to FIFA lighting standard C, which could be sufficient to organize competitions as high as U-20 Women’s World Cup.
All works are expected to be completed during summer of 2025.
While Jūrmala does not host any top-tier club since the demise of Jurmalas Spartaks in 2022, some Virslīga teams occasionally use the stadium during regular season. Prior to the completion of natural grass pitch at the LNK Sporta Parks, FC RFS would play their European qualification games at Sloka as the stadium is easily reached from Riga by direct train.
