Kauno Žalgiris announced further changes to the squad as they begin preparations for the 2025 A Lyga season. Edvinas Kloniūnas will remain with the club for another year while Karolis Šilkaitis departs.
Kauno Žalgiris announced that they have extended contract with Kaunas native Edvinas Kloniūnas (26), who will remain with the club for another year. Kloniūnas, a former Lithuania U-21 international, is a product of the Tauras academy and has been with the Kaunas side since 2019, only having left for two years to develop his career in Croatia and Armenia before coming back in 2021.
Capable of playing in defensive midfield or as a centre-back, Kloniūnas played 31 matches across all competitions for Kauno Žalgiris last season, scoring 4 goals, receiving 11 yellow cards and getting sent off once. To date, he has played 186 matches for his team, including 166 in A Lyga.
The club also announced that Karolis Šilkaitis (28) will be departing after almost 6 years and 190 matches with the team. Šilkaitis, who holds the record for second most appearances for the club, only played 19 games across all competitions last season, alternating between various positions on either of the wings. He departs Kaunas having scored 10 goals throughout all these years.
