Former Estonian U-18 winger signed with Azeri Premyer Liga side Shamakhi FC on a 6 month contract with an option to extend for another a year.
Yesterday, Shamakhi FC announced on their social media the signing of Tallinn-born Murad Velijev on a 6 month deal with an option to extend for another year. Himself a product of the FCI Levadia academy, Velijev is a dual citizen of Estonia and Azerbaijan, and presently represents the Azeri U-21 team despite having previously played for Estonia U-16 and U-18, earning 2 and 3 caps respectively. Since switching over to the Azeri U-21, Velijev played 15 matches and scored one goal.
This will not be the first experience of playing abroad for the Azeri-Estonian winger who spent the 2024 season on loan with the relegated Nõmme United – he had previously spent time in the academy systems of German Bad Aibling U-17 and Rosenheim U-19 between 2018 to 2020. In Estonia, Velijev scored 5 goals over 88 matches, with appearances for FCI Levadia, Tallinna Kalev and Nõmme United.
Shamakhi FC finished bottom of the table last season and are currently 7th out of 10 in the Premyer Liga, holding 17 points after 18 matches played.
