A Lyga record holder for most games played, Robertas Veževičius has become the new FK Banga Garždai sports director.

The veteran winger, who retired after this season, played in Banga for the last five seasons, making 137 appearances across all competitions and scoring 23 goals. He helped Banga make history by captaining the team to their first-ever major Lithuanian trophy this season, the Lithuanian Cup, by beating FC Hegelmann after penalty kicks.

After the Cup final, the 38-year-old Robertas announced it would be his last year in professional football. He didn’t have to wait long for a new opportunity in the organization, as he was announced today as the club’s new sports director.

Veževičius’s impressive and record-long career in the Lithuanian A Lyga started in 2005 when he played for FK Vilnius Vetra. After that, he played for other various Lithuanian clubs, FK Kruoja, FA Šiauliai, Klaipeda Atlantas, FK Stumbras, and FK Sūduva, with whom he won back-to-back A Lyga titles.

Veževičius, in a 19-year-long football career, made 469 appearances in the Lithuanian top flight, a record.
