Kauno Žalgiris announced the signing of Belgian attacking midfielder Amine Benchaib from FK Panevėžys on a free transfer.
The 26 year old dual Belgian and Moroccan national joined Panevėžys from Romanian top tier side FCV Farul in July and immediately became one of the key players for the struggling champions, playing 12 games, scoring 3 goals and making one assist. He also played all games in the European qualification games.
Benchaib becomes the first signing for season 2025 by the Kaunas side and is sure to bring quality to their attacking midfield. Benchaib, in addition to experience in Romanian top flight, also has almost 70 games under his belt in the Belgian Jupiler Pro League as part of R Charleroi SC and KV Kortrijk squads.
On signing the contract, he commented to Žalgiris.lt:
My first experience in Lithuania was good, I’ve already seen a bit of Kaunas. The decision was made quite easily, although, to be honest, I had other options. Kauno Žalgiris was the most interesting for me with its ambitions and the pleasant challenge of participating in the European tournament selection. I was impressed by the conversations with the director, coach and others. I am a creative player who likes to play dominant football, contribute to goals and help my teammates win as many matches as possible. I want to become a champion.
