Karl-Romet Nõmm, who played for Viimsi JK last season, has signed a contract with FC Kuressaare for the upcoming season. He will be reunited with his familiar coach, Sander Post, with whom he previously played at Tulevik and Flora.
Nõmm, 26, has extensive experience in the Premium Liiga, having played 156 games. He was the starting goalkeeper for Viljandi Tulevik for many years and spent two seasons at FC Flora, where he was the standout player in 2022 and was voted the best goalkeeper of the Premium League season by the fans.
In early 2023, Nõmm made his first senior appearance and signed an international contract with Polish Ekstraklasa club Sandecja Nowy Sącz. Although the club was relegated, Nõmm made a strong impression and was set to join another Ekstraklasa club, Zaglebie Sosnowiec, in the summer. However, he encountered unexpected setbacks when he failed a medical examination at the last minute, despite assurances from Estonian national team doctor Kaspar Rõivassepp that there was nothing wrong with his shoulder. A similar situation occurred at the end of the year when he was about to rejoin Sandecja, resulting in a lengthy break from playing.
Before the last season, Nõmm trained with Paide Linnameeskond but ended up without a contract. At the last minute, he joined Viimsi, who played in the Esiliiga. After an injury-free and relatively good season, he returns to Premium Liiga and signs with Kuressaare.
“I am thrilled that Karl-Romet has decided to join us,” said Kuressaare’s new head coach, Sander Post, in a club statement. “He is a talented and internationally experienced goalkeeper who brings quality to our team, which will help us in the new season.” Post could not hide his excitement.
Karl-Romet Nõmm was excited about the move: “I am happy to continue my career at FC Kuressaare. Sander Post’s commitment and desire to have me on the team made joining the Vikings easy. Knowing Post’s work ethic and fighting spirit from our time at Viljandi and Flora, I greatly respect what he does, so this decision came quite easily for me. Kuressaare is a team that never gives up and fights until the last drop of blood. The Vikings ‘ strengths are their determination and ability to work together as a united team! I hope to bring the fans many positive moments in the upcoming season. I believe we can surprise many, and I hope this will reflect in our position on the table at the end of the season. See you at the stadium!”
