Jānis Ikaunieks is doubtful for Latvia’s opening Nations League matches after suffering an injury in training, while Kristers Čudars has received his first call-up to the senior national team.
RFS head coach Viktors Morozs said Ikaunieks could face a 14-day rehabilitation period after medical examinations. The 31-year-old attacking midfielder was absent as RFS drew 1-1 with Auda in Sunday’s Virsliga fixture, a result that restored the champions to the top of the table. RFS were also without defender Aleksandar Filipović because of injury.
Auda captain Eduards Dašķevičs was substituted after 20 minutes following a clash of knees, but coach Didier Zanetti expects the 24-year-old to join the national team. Latvia will assess both players before confirming any squad changes. Čudars, 27, was called up by Ogre United after scoring his ninth league goal of the season from the penalty spot in a 1-0 win over former club Super Nova. Latvia begin their Nations League campaign away to Armenia on Friday, 25 September 2026. Ikaunieks has won 74 caps and scored 12 goals, while Dašķevičs has made 24 appearances.
