FK Liepāja striker Joseph Ede Oloko has received his first call-up to the Benin national team after establishing himself as the leading scorer in the Latvian Virslīga.
The 25-year-old, who was just awarded his second Virslīga player of the month trophy this season, holds Nigerian and Beninese nationality, has scored 25 league goals this season and six assists across 26 appearances.
Oloko began the 2026 campaign on loan at FK Tukums 2000 before returning to Liepāja in June, with his form continuing after the move. He currently leads the Virslīga scoring charts, five goals clear of Riga FC forward Muhammed Badamosi.
His season has included a four-goal performance for Tukums against Ogre United and a recent double in Liepāja’s 3-2 victory over Riga FC.
The call-up comes ahead of Benin’s opening 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. The “Cheetahs” are due to face Burkina Faso in Ouagadougou on 25 September before meeting Mauritania four days later in Abidjan.
Oloko has yet to make a senior international appearance, giving the Virslīga’s most in-form scorer an opportunity to make his Benin debut during the forthcoming international window.
