Andrejs Cigaņiks opened his goalscoring account for the Swiss Super League season as Luzern fought back to earn a 1-1 away draw against Servette despite playing almost the entire match with ten men.
The Latvian international once again started for Luzern, having played the full 90 minutes in each of the previous two league matches. Servette, meanwhile, were without Lithuanian goalkeeper Edvinas Gertmonas, who was not included in the matchday squad after featuring in their last two league games.
Servette made the stronger start and took the lead in the 14th minute through Bosnian veteran Miroslav Stevanovic. Luzern’s task became even harder only six minutes later, when Oscar Kabwit was shown a straight red card, leaving the visitors a man down for most of the match.
However, Luzern responded in impressive fashion. In the 31st minute, they produced a sharp counter-attack, with Cigaņiks arriving to finish the move and make it 1-1. It was his first goal of the new league season and his third Swiss Super League goal since joining Luzern before the 2024/25 campaign.
With the extra man, Servette pushed heavily after the break and attempted 16 shots in the second half alone, but Luzern defended with discipline and held on for a valuable point away from home.
Cigaņiks completed his third straight full match and has now featured in all five of Luzern’s league games this season. His side sit eighth in the table with five points from five matches, while Gertmonas’ Servette are one place below them with four points and one game in hand.
Luzern return to action on Wednesday at home against Vaduz, while Servette will travel to face Lugano a day later.
