FK Liepāja have moved quickly to appoint a new head coach, confirming former FCI Levadia manager Curro Torres just two days after announcing the departure of Vladimir Vassiljev.
The 49-year-old Spaniard arrives with strong Baltic football experience, having spent three seasons in charge of Levadia Tallinn. During his time in Estonia, Torres led the club to one Premium Liiga title, one Estonian Cup and one Estonian Super Cup.
After finishing second in the 2025 Premium Liiga season, Torres left Levadia and returned to Spain, where he took charge of third-tier side Real Murcia.
Now the former Spain international is back in the Baltics, taking over a Liepāja side still fighting for a European place in the Virslīga. He becomes the club’s third head coach of the season as Liepāja look to find stability during the final part of the campaign.
Torres also brings an impressive playing background. He represented Spain at the 2002 FIFA World Cup and won two La Liga titles with Valencia, where he was part of one of the club’s most successful eras.
Liepāja currently sit fifth in the Virslīga table, still within reach of the remaining European spot. Torres’ debut will be a difficult one, with his new side set to host Latvian champions Riga FC on Monday.
