Flora midfielder Tristan Toomas Teeväli is facing time out after being involved in a traffic collision caused by a drunk driver, the 23-year-old has told Soccernet.
Teeväli said the incident happened on Saturday evening as he and his partner were travelling home. Their car was struck from the side at a junction on Sõpruse puiestee as they crossed on a green light, with another vehicle entering the intersection against the signal.
“The car took a heavy hit and will be written off – there’s nothing to save,” Teeväli said. “We were a bit luckier: nothing is broken, but we suffered strong impacts.” He added that a police patrol was nearby and arrived within a minute, and that the other driver was breathalysed and found to be under the influence of alcohol.
Teeväli said both he and his partner have extensive bruising, while he took a blow to the chest which has made breathing and certain movements painful.
He travelled with Flora to Pärnu the following day but withdrew before the match after realising he could not play. “As an athlete you hope until the last moment that a miracle happens and you can play, but during the trip I understood it wouldn’t happen,” he said. “It was uncomfortable to sit and uncomfortable to talk – everything hurt.”
Teeväli did not travel for Flora’s subsequent match in Tartu as he continues his recovery.
