Latvian Virslīga side FK Liepāja have completed the signing of Kyrgyzstan international Beknaz Almazbekov on the final day of the summer transfer window, with the winger arriving from Ukrainian Premier League club Rukh Lviv.
The 21-year-old spent the last season and a half with Rukh Lviv, making 29 appearances in all competitions for the Ukrainian top-flight side.
Almazbekov is a product of Galatasaray’s academy, having joined the Turkish giants at the age of 13. During his time in Istanbul, he progressed through the youth ranks and even featured for the first team in several pre-season friendlies.
In 2022, English newspaper The Guardian included Almazbekov in its annual Next Generation list, naming him among the world’s most promising players born in 2005. However, his senior career has not developed as rapidly as many expected. After leaving Galatasaray, he signed for Kosovan side KF Llapi in September 2024 before moving to Rukh Lviv a year later.
At international level, Almazbekov has earned 19 caps for Kyrgyzstan and scored his first senior international goal earlier this year in a friendly against Madagascar.
Liepāja currently sit fifth in the Virslīga standings and will return to league action next Friday with an away match against FK Grobiņa.
