Toplyga round 25 saw Džiugas Telšiai rescue a late point away to FK Panevežys, scoring in the closing stages to earn a 1-1 draw. The visitors even had a golden chance to snatch all three points moments later but were forced to settle for a share of the spoils.

Džiugas created the first major opportunity in the 13th minute when Nigerian centre-back Brendan Asomugha unleashed an acrobatic effort, only for veteran goalkeeper Vytautas Černiauskas to produce an outstanding save.

Panevežys gradually grew into the game and broke the deadlock in the 27th minute. Marko Bačanin delivered a pass into the penalty area, where Ernestas Burdzilauskas stretched to guide the ball into the bottom corner for 1-0.

The visitors nearly equalised before the interval as Ronald Sobowale found space inside the box, but his goal-bound effort was heroically blocked by the Panevežys defence.

Džiugas came out strongly after the restart and thought they had levelled in the 52nd minute. Deitonas Vinckus finished from close range after arriving at the back post, but the goal was immediately ruled out for handball, with VAR confirming the decision.

As Panevežys edged closer to what would have been their first victory over Džiugas this season, the visitors finally found their breakthrough in the 87th minute. Once again it was Asomugha at the centre of the action, collecting the ball just inside the penalty area before firing a powerful strike into the bottom corner. The goal was the 20-year-old Nigerian defender’s first in the Lithuanian top flight.

Džiugas almost completed a dramatic turnaround just a minute later. Denys Bunchukov squared the ball across goal, and after Černiauskas failed to deal with it cleanly, Ronald Sobowale looked certain to score. However, his effort struck teammate Tomas Stelmokas, who inadvertently blocked the shot on the goal line.

Černiauskas was called into action again in the closing moments, making another important save to deny Pedro Bahia from distance as Panevežys held on for a point.

The draw leaves Džiugas with 34 points from 22 matches, level with Kauno Žalgiris and Žalgiris Vilnius in the battle near the top of the table. Panevežys remain eighth with 20 points from 21 games.
