Lithuanian champions FK Kauno Žalgiris have strengthened their squad just ahead of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round clash against Dinamo Zagreb, signing Australian international hopeful Anthony Kalik.

The 28-year-old midfielder, who holds both Australian and Croatian citizenship, joins the Kaunas-based club after spending much of the last decade with Croatian giants Hajduk Split. Having been part of the club across two spells, Kalik now embarks on a new chapter in Lithuania with the reigning TOPLYGA champions.

Before establishing himself in Croatia, Kalik also represented several clubs in Australia. During his time with Hajduk, he gained further top-flight experience through loan spells at Rudeš and Gorica.

A regular for Australia’s youth national teams earlier in his career, Kalik earned a call-up to the senior Australian national team last year, highlighting his continued development at the highest level.

Across nearly 200 appearances in the Croatian top division, the midfielder has registered 30 goal contributions, underlining his experience and attacking quality from midfield.

Throughout his career, Kalik has lifted both the Australian Cup and the Croatian Cup. He also worked under Lithuanian coach Valdas Dambrauskas at both Gorica and Hajduk, adding another connection to Lithuanian football before his move to Kaunas.
