Lithuanian champions Kauno Žalgiris have discovered their potential opponents in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League play-off rounds, with Turkish giants Besiktas among the possible opponents.
Kauno Žalgiris booked their place in the third qualifying round after eliminating Faroese champions KI Klaksvik and will now face Croatian powerhouse Dinamo Zagreb for a place in the Champions League play-offs. Monday’s UEFA draw also determined the club’s possible path regardless of the outcome of that tie.
Should Kauno Žalgiris pull off an upset and eliminate Dinamo Zagreb, they will face Norwegian champions Viking in the UEFA Champions League play-off round.
If they fall to the Croatian side, the Lithuanian champions will continue their European campaign in the UEFA Europa League play-offs, where they have been paired with the winner of the tie between Turkish giants Besiktas and Czech side Hradec Kralove.
Kauno Žalgiris begin their third qualifying round campaign on Tuesday away to Dinamo Zagreb, with the return leg scheduled for next week at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas.
