Pärnu Vaprus claimed an valuable point on Sunday after holding Premium Liiga leaders Levadia Tallinn to a 1-1 draw, with the visitors salvaging a point through a stunning second-half free-kick from Mihkel Ainsalu.

Levadia controlled possession from the opening whistle and created the better chances early on, but Vaprus goalkeeper Ott Nõmm produced several important saves to keep the visitors at bay.

Despite Levadia’s dominance, it was the home side who struck first in the 22nd minute. 18-year-old Rasmus Orm calmly finished after being found inside the penalty area to give Vaprus a surprise lead. This was his 3rd goal in the last two games.

Levadia continued to press for an equaliser throughout the remainder of the first half and after the restart, with Wendell, Enock Otoo and Maksimilian Skvortsov all going close. Vaprus defended resolutely, while Nõmm repeatedly frustrated the league leaders.

The breakthrough finally came in the 59th minute. Levadia were awarded a free-kick around 20 metres from goal, and Mihkel Ainsalu curled a superb strike into the top corner to level the match at 1-1.

Levadia pushed relentlessly for a winner during the closing stages and thought they had found it in stoppage time, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside. Vaprus also had a golden opportunity to snatch all three points when substitute Kevin Kauber raced clear from inside his own half, but after carrying the ball more than 50 metres, he sent his finish narrowly wide of the post.

The final whistle confirmed a valuable point for Vaprus, while Levadia missed the chance to extend their lead at the top of the Premium Liiga standings.
