Lithuanian striker Gytis Paulauskas scored his first goal in South Korean football on Saturday, helping Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors secure a 2-0 away victory over Pohang Steelers in the K League 1.
The 26-year-old striker made his fourth appearance for Jeonbuk since joining the club on loan from fellow K League side Jeju SK. Having earned a place in the starting line-up for the second consecutive match, Paulauskas repaid the faith shown in him with a decisive contribution.
The Lithuanian thought he had opened the scoring in the 14th minute when he headed home from close range, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review, which spotted an offside in the build-up.
His wait for a first goal in Jeonbuk colours did not last much longer. Just before half-time, Paulauskas controlled a pass inside the penalty area before calmly finishing with his right foot to give the visitors a deserved lead.
Jeonbuk sealed all three points late in the second half with another goal to wrap up a 2-0 victory. Paulauskas played 75 minutes before being substituted, with his strike marking his first goal in Asian football. The match was his fourth appearance for Jeonbuk and his 11th in the K League this season across spells with Jeju SK and Jeonbuk.
The victory ended Jeonbuk’s two-match winless run and lifted them back into second place in the K League standings with 33 points from 20 matches. League leaders Seoul remain nine points clear, although they have played one game fewer.
