Pärnu Vaprus moved level on points with Tartu Tammeka in the Premium liiga table after a 5-1 victory in the 19th round, with striker Matthias Limberg scoring three of the goals.
Speaking to Soccernet TV after the final whistle, Vaprus striker Matthias Limberg joked about finally experiencing what his former team-mate Marten-Chris Paalberg managed last season. “I haven’t got to feel it much, but I felt like Paalberg at his best. Now I know what it feels like to score three,” he said.
Limberg said Vaprus’ dominance was built in the first half, when they enjoyed sustained spells on the ball and created chances, before turning defence into attack effectively. “We were able to become dangerous in transitions. In the second half there was more defending, but we still had a couple of chances and we took them,” he added.
The result keeps Vaprus in fifth place, with their advantage over Tammeka strengthened by the convincing scoreline. Limberg, who had three league goals before kick-off, now has six this season, but insisted there was no room for complacency. “It’s certainly important, but we can’t take any discounts. The gaps in mid-table are small. We have to play our game and give our best,” he said.
Tammeka forward Tristan Koskor, on the other hand, called the defeat “terrible” and “unacceptable”, saying his side lost their structure as the game unfolded. “It’s hard to sum it up. Our structure disappeared. I don’t know how to comment on it,” he said.
Koskor pointed to individual mistakes and a flat start, despite preparations. “I think we started sleepy, or we were still on the bus. Simple individual errors. We can put any diagrams up, but if we make mistakes like that individually, it’s hard to play any kind of match,” he said.
He added that a triple substitution at the start of the second half was aimed at injecting freshness, but there was “nothing positive” to take from the trip to Pärnu. With a break in the schedule ahead, Koskor said the focus must be on training and fixing key details.
