According to reports from Croatia, FK Kauno Žalgiris have identified their new head coach. The Lithuanian club are expected to appoint 51-year-old Croatian manager Željko Sopić.
Sopić has been without a club since leaving Croatian top-flight side NK Osijek in February 2026. Prior to that, he managed several clubs across Europe, including Widzew Łódź in Poland, HNK Rijeka and HNK Gorica in Croatia, as well as Sabah FK in Azerbaijan. He has also held a number of assistant coaching roles throughout his career.
According to Lithuanian outlet Sportas.lt, Sopić is expected to arrive in Kaunas with his full coaching staff. As a result, it remains unclear whether current head coach Algis Jankauskas and goalkeeping coach Andrius Ramonas will continue at the club.
