Toplyga club Žalgiris Vilnius have completed the signing of Ukrainian midfielder Ivan Lytvynenko, who becomes the club’s fourth addition of the summer transfer window.
The 25-year-old arrived in Lithuania on Friday and, after successfully completing his medical, signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with an option to extend it by a further season. Lytvynenko joins Žalgiris from Ukrainian club Metalist 1925 Kharkiv, renamed FC Kharkiv in mid-June, where he helped the side finish fifth in the Ukrainian league last season. In 21 league appearances he scored twice.
“We strengthened both our defence and attack earlier this summer, but we were also looking to add fresh quality in midfield. Ivan has experience playing for ambitious clubs competing for top honours and is capable of fulfilling several midfield roles, from defensive duties to contributing in attack. We had been waiting for his arrival for some time, but the bureaucratic procedures took longer than expected,” said Žalgiris sporting director Giedrius Klevinskas.
A product of the Dnipro football academy, Lytvynenko began his professional career with Dnipro-1 before going on to represent Rukh Lviv, VPK-Ahro and Chornomorets Odesa.
In 2023, the midfielder moved to Georgia, where he won the national championship with Dinamo Batumi before later featuring for Dila Gori. He returned to Ukraine in 2024. Lytvynenko has also represented Ukraine at youth international level.
He becomes Žalgiris’ fourth signing of the summer following the arrivals of fellow Ukrainian striker Stanislav Bilenkyi, Belgium center-back Danny Lupano and German defender Dominik Franke.
