FK Kauno Žalgiris continue to be active in the summer transfer window as the Lithuanian champions strengthen their squad ahead of the upcoming UEFA Champions League qualifying campaign.

The club has reinforced its defensive line by signing 26-year-old full-back Marko Konatar.

The versatile Serbian defender spent more than five years with Železničar Pančevo, competing in Serbia’s top-flight league over the past three seasons. During his time at the club, he also wore the captain’s armband on several occasions.

“Marko is a versatile defender who will add valuable depth to our squad. We had been expecting Lithuanian defender Eduardas Jurjonas to return to this position, but his rehabilitation has taken longer than anticipated. With the most demanding period of the season approaching, we could no longer afford to wait and therefore decided to strengthen the squad,” said the club’s Sporting Director, Darius Šinkūnas.

Born in Belgrade, Konatar came through the youth ranks of Red Star Belgrade (Crvena Zvezda). He made his first-team debut in 2020 and was part of the squad that won the Serbian championship title.

Throughout his career, the defender has also had spells with Grafičar Belgrade and FK Inđija in Serbia. Lithuania will mark the first overseas destination of his professional career.

At FK Kauno Žalgiris, Konatar will wear the number 33 shirt.
