FCI Levadia Tallinn restored their 12-point lead at the top of the Premium Liiga with a dramatic 2-1 away victory over Nõmme United, despite playing almost an hour with ten men.
Levadia started the match in complete control and dominated possession from the opening minutes. Their pressure brought the breakthrough in the 15th minute when centre-back Victory Iboro delivered an excellent diagonal cross into the penalty area. Maksimilian Skvortsov met it with a well-placed header from around the penalty spot, guiding the ball inside the post to give the leaders a deserved 1-0 advantage.
United gradually grew into the match and nearly equalised in unusual fashion when a long throw from Mathias Palts caused problems in the Levadia box. The ball deflected towards goal and found Chanda, whose header struck the crossbar.
The match changed significantly in the 33rd minute. Iboro, who had already been booked after losing possession to Dacosta Owusu and fouling him, repeated the mistake shortly afterwards. Owusu again stole the ball from him, Iboro committed another foul, and the referee showed the defender a second yellow card. Levadia were reduced to ten men with almost an hour still to play.
Despite the red card, Levadia adjusted into a more compact shape and still carried a threat before half-time. Wendell forced a strong reaction save from Georg Lagus after meeting Joseph Saliste’s dangerous cross, while United also looked dangerous on transitions.
Nõmme United made three changes at half-time, introducing Zakaria Beglarishvili, Artemiy Radomski and Koen Oostenbrink. The changes eventually paid off in the 62nd minute after a costly mistake from Kaua Davi. The Levadia defender played the ball straight to Beglarishvili inside his own penalty area, and the experienced Georgian calmly finished past Karl Andre Vallner to make it 1-1.
Both teams pushed for a winner. United had chances through Beglarishvili, Benjamine Chisala and Owusu, while Levadia introduced attacking options from the bench, including Mark Oliver Roosnupp and Bubacarr Tambedou.
The decisive moment came in the 85th minute. Skvortsov’s corner was recycled back into the danger area by Rasmus Peetson. Wendell struck the crossbar from close range, but Roosnupp kept the move alive and sent the ball back across goal, where Abraham Nwankwo reacted quickest to score and restore Levadia’s lead.
United still had late chances to rescue a point. Palts struck the post after a Beglarishvili pass, while Owusu forced Vallner into an important save. Levadia survived the pressure and held on for a valuable victory.
The result keeps Levadia firmly in control of the title race, restoring their 12-point lead over nearest challengers.
