FC Kuressaare came from behind late on to beat Harju 3-2 away in the Premium liiga, with substitute Andero Kivi scoring twice in a dramatic second half.
After a quiet opening period in Laagri, Harju came to control possession but created little chances of note. Ramol Sillamaa repeatedly broke forward without finding the finish, while at the other end, Deivid Andreas struck the crossbar via a heavy deflection. Goalkeepers Jan Martti Vainula and Karl-Romet Nõmm were finally put to work before the break, keeping out efforts from Jevgeni Demidov and Kaspar Laur.
The match opened up just before the hour, starting with a fine long-range strike from Kuressaare full-back Sten Patrick Prunn, who drove a shot from outside the area into the corner in the 59th minute. Harju responded four minutes later with an almost identical effort from Marten Henrik Kelement to make it 1-1.
Kuressaare went back in front in the 74th minute when Kivi, introduced from the bench, reacted first after a corner to turn in for 2-1. Harju levelled again nine minutes later as Sander Alex Liit pounced after a long throw to make it 2-2.
However, the decisive moment came deep into stoppage time. In the 90th minute plus five, Andreas slid a pass through for Kivi, who finished from inside the area to complete his double and secure another 3-2 win for Kuressaare over Harju this season.
Captain and goalkeeper Karl-Romet Nõmm said the result carried extra weight given the intensity of trips to Laagri. “A very good feeling. It’s always good to win in Laagri – the matches here always become very combative, and to leave with three points is very good,” he told Soccernet TV after the game.
Kuressaare have now beaten Harju 3-2 in both league meetings this campaign, and Nõmm pointed to the fine margins in a crowded table. “It’s the result of hard work. The games against them haven’t been easy – they’ve all been very even and combative. It could have gone either way, especially today,” he said. “The table is so tight that one win or one loss affects so much right now – it’s a very exciting season.”
Nõmm reserved special praise for the matchwinner, revealing Kivi had recently been unwell. “The man has had a 40-degree fever for a week and comes on and scores two. Maybe he should have a fever more often,” Nõmm said. “Credit to him and the whole team – it was a very good game.”
Harju and Kuressaare also fielded several Estonia U-21 internationals after the recent break, while the crowd in Laagri was listed at 277.
