Estonia’s men’s Under-19 side opened their Baltic Cup campaign with a 3-1 victory against Lithuania, recovering from an early setback to take control before the break.

Lithuania went ahead in the 14th minute thanks to Joris Petravičius, who has academy experience in Norway and has been part of Bologna’s youth set-up since last summer. Estonia responded quickly and levelled on 22 minutes when captain Remo Valdmets finished to make it 1-1.

Estonia then went ahead just before half-time. Forward Kaspar Anton, playing his first official match for Estonia at youth international level, scored in the 44th minute to give his side a 2-1 lead at the break.

Estonia secured the win early in the second half as Artjom Truuväärt added a third, sealing a 3-1 win.

The result leaves Estonia top of the Baltic tournament standings after their opening fixture. Lithuania had already played once, beating Latvia 1-0 in their first match.

Estonia next face Latvia in Riga tomorrow, on Monday 8th June, at Jāņa Skredeļa stadium in Torņakalns – the home ground of SK Super Nova.
