Estonian midfielder Georgi Tunjov has found a new club in Italy after signing with Serie C side Sambenedettese, continuing his long football journey through the Italian pyramid.
The 25-year-old midfielder has now joined his seventh Italian club since first moving from Narva Trans to SPAL’s academy in 2018 at just 16 years old.
Tunjov was still under contract with Serie B side Pescara at the beginning of last season, but became a free agent early in the campaign. The Estonian then joined Serie C club Ospitaletto, where he made 10 appearances before switching during the winter transfer window to fellow Serie C side Aurora Pro Patria.
At Pro Patria, Tunjov managed two goals and one assist in 12 league appearances after arriving midway through the season.
The move to Sambenedettese continues Tunjov’s lengthy stay in Italian football. During the 2019/20 season with SPAL, he made 10 appearances in Serie A, becoming only the second Estonian footballer ever to play in Italy’s top division.
Sambenedettese secured survival in Serie C this season, finishing 16th in the 19-team league table during their first year back at that level. Historically the club spent several seasons in Serie B, most recently during the 1988/89 campaign, but over the last few decades have largely moved between the third and fourth tiers of Italian football.
