About the club
DFK Dainava Alytus is a Lithuanian football team and has emerged as a relatively new club, established in 2016 after the merger of two clubs, “Auska” and “Dzūkų tankai.” Primarily as a phoenix club of FK Dainava Alytus who were dissolved back in 2014 because of a financial problems.
DFK Dainava Alytus is a team that should be considered for an enjoyable live football experience when touring Baltic football. The “Dainavas” stadium is nestled among pine trees and has a rich history as one of the most popular football venues in Lithuania, having attracted the largest number of spectators in the past
Over its short history, the team has spent six of its ten years in the second division while competing in the A Lyga for three seasons. They were relegated once, finishing 9th in 2021, and narrowly avoided relegation again in 2023 with an 8th place finish.
A significant achievement came in 2024 when they secured a 4th place finish, marking a critical boost for the southernmost club in Lithuania, which has historically struggled in the leagues and experienced ups and downs between divisions.
Alytus is gradually establishing itself within Lithuanian football, supported by passionate ultras known as the “Dainava Tanks,” who provide enthusiastic backing during home games at Alytus Stadium. Dainava’s supporters are unique in Lithuania for their vigorous support of their club, which has spilled over to violent confrontations with other fans and even referees on a small number of occasions.
Under Belarusian manager Syarhey Kuznyatsow the team seem to have found stability and consistent form. The team has a squad that predominantly consists of Lithuanian, Ukrainian and Nigerian nationals.
