Toplyga Matchday 15’s only fixture saw FA Šiauliai defeat FK Riteriai 2-0 at home, increasing their advantage over the bottom two teams in the league table to 13 points.
Šiauliai started the match much stronger, consistently creating dangerous attacking situations and forcing goalkeeper Simone Moschin into several early interventions.
The home side’s pressure finally paid off in the 14th minute. Portuguese midfielder Rui Batalha delivered a free-kick from long range that deceived Moschin completely. Expecting somebody to get a touch on the ball, the goalkeeper hesitated as the delivery flew untouched straight into the net to give Šiauliai a 1-0 lead.
The remainder of the first half produced few major chances. Batalha came close to doubling the lead after finding space for a shot that narrowly missed the target, while at the other end Arvydas Novikovas saw an effort blocked before it deflected over the bar.
Riteriai improved after the break and finally began creating dangerous moments in attack. Simas Civilkas wasted two excellent opportunities — first shooting wide from a good position and later being denied by Šiauliai goalkeeper Paulius Linkevičius.
Linkevičius was forced into several more important saves to preserve the clean sheet and Riteriai’s missed opportunities eventually proved costly.
Deep into stoppage time, even Moschin came forward for a corner as the visitors searched desperately for an equaliser. Šiauliai cleared the danger and substitute Nedas Garbaliauskas won the race to the loose ball, outran the recovering defender and calmly rolled the ball into an empty net to seal the victory.
The win gives Šiauliai three important points, while Riteriai suffer their sixth consecutive defeat and remain without a victory after 15 league matches this season.
