Latvia name squad for final Women’s Euro qualifiers against Portugal and Slovakia

Latvia head coach Liene Vāciete has named her squad for the final matches of the Women’s European Championship qualifying campaign.

Latvia travel to face Portugal on 5 June before returning to Rīga to play Slovakia at the BTA Daugavas Stadium on 9 June. Vāciete’s selection includes players from four domestic clubs as well as those based in Sweden, Poland, England, Iceland, Canada, Kazakhstan and Italy.

Renāte Gaugeres and Alise Gindra drop out compared with the previous call-up in April, while Alise Keita Baltrušaite comes in after earning her only senior cap to date in October 2025.

Latvia are still searching for their first points in the group after four rounds, with Portugal national football team top on 12 points, Finland national football team on nine and Slovakia national football team on three. Latvia suffered 2-3 away defeats against Slovakia and Finland in March before losing 0-3 to Portugal and 0-1 to Finland at home in April.

Portugal sit 21st in the FIFA women’s World rankings, Slovakia are 52nd and Latvia are 103rd. Portugal have reached the last three European Championship finals and made their World Cup finals debut in 2023, while Latvia are playing in League B for the first time in this qualifying cycle.
