About the club
Banga, famously recognized for its orange jerseys, is nicknamed “the Tiger Team.” The team’s history began in 1966 with the establishment of a football team at the Gargžda Construction Materials Combine. Over the years, the team has experienced fluctuations between various league tiers, achieving significant milestones in the early 1990s. In 1991, Banga secured third place at the World Lithuanian Sports Games and took first place in the third division, which allowed them to be promoted to the second division.
By 1994, the team had reached the highest tier of Lithuanian football. Although they faced challenges, they remained competitive. 1999, Banga achieved its best-ever placement, finishing 7th in the top league. However, the early 2000s brought struggles, culminating in a drop to the II League by 2001. The club rebounded and returned to the second division by 2002. The years leading up to 2006 were tumultuous, but the club ultimately earned the right to play in the second division and later in the top league again by 2009.
After a difficult period in 2014, the team was relegated from the top division. However, in 2019, they finished second, won the promotion match against Palanga, and returned to the Lithuanian top flight after a five-year absence. Following several financial challenges, Banga was recognized as a stable team in the league when the federation granted them a license for the 2020 A Lyga season, marking a positive turnaround in their history.
Banga won their first ever trophy in 2024 by defeating FC Hegelmann in the Lithuanian Cup finals 4:1 on penalties, thus securing their European debut via participation in the UEFA Conference League qualifications in 2025.
